Frequently asked questions

Find key guidance on membership eligibility, essential safety gear, signing on, and event day procedures for our time trials across the South West.

Do I need a TLI Cycling membership to take part?

Yes, all participants must hold an active TLI Cycling membership. Membership costs £25 per calendar year and runs from 1st January to 31st December, covering you for our events and official series races.

Where can I find the official safety and competition rules?

All official racing regulations, course conduct guidelines, and technical standards are set out directly on the national TLI Cycling website. We encourage all riders to review them prior to attending an event.

Are cycling helmets compulsory for all time trials?

Yes, a hard-shell cycling helmet conforming to recognised safety standards is strictly mandatory for every competitor. You will not be permitted to start without one properly fitted and fastened.

Do I need front and rear bike lights?

Yes, working front (white) and rear (red) lights, both illuminated and securely fixed to your bicycle, are required at all times while competing on the road.

Who is eligible to enter TLI Cycling events?

Riders of all experience levels are welcome, from seasoned testers to newcomers wanting to try time trialling. As long as you meet the category age criteria and hold a valid TLI Cycling membership, you are eligible to enter.

What is the sign-on procedure on race day?

Head directly to the race headquarters upon arrival to sign the official start sheet, present your membership details, and collect your race number. Please arrive at least 30–45 minutes before your allotted start time.

What type of bike can I ride?

You can compete using either a dedicated time trial machine or a standard road bike. Both must be roadworthy and equipped with functioning brakes and compliant tyres.
